Avalanche warning for region Indre Sogn Monday 23.04.2018

Danger level 3 - Considerable avalanche danger

Wet natural avalanches possible. The avalanche danger stays at the same level as long as the rain continues. Avoid avalanche release and run out areas.

Avalanche problems

Wet snow (loose snow avalanches)

You can easily trigger avalanches on some steep slopes. Avalanches can get large enough to bury or even kill you (size 2).

Loose snow

Wet snow (slab avalanches)

You can trigger avalanches on some steep slopes. Avalanches can get large enough to bury a car or destroy a small house (size 3).

Water pooling in/above snow layers

Glide avalanches

You can trigger avalanches on a few steep slopes. Avalanches can get large enough to bury or even kill you (size 2).

Wet snow/melting near the ground

Below you can see a description of the current snow cover information and current weather forecast in the mountains. If your observations deviate greatly from what is described here, the warning will not necessarily apply either. Always make your own judgments or stay away from avalanche terrain.

Høge temperaturar har påverka snøen heilt opp til fjelltopphøgde. Det er generelt mykje vatn i snødekket. Fleire netter har det ikkje vore nattefrost. Over 1000 moh har snøvêr og vind lagt opp nysnøflak i leområder.

Vedvarande svake lag av kantkorn har stor utbreiing og finst på varierande djup i snødekket over 1100moh.

Det har gått mange våte skred dei siste dagane. Både som laussnø-, flak- og glideskred.

Det har vore observert mykje vatn i snøen. Glidesprekkar har opna og utvida seg.

3 mm precipitation, up to 10 mm in the most exposed areas. Breeze from south, changing to strong breeze from the south during the afternoon. -4 °C to 3 °C at 1400 m a.s.l. Partly cloudy.

Monday 23. April 2018

8 mm precipitation, up to 20 mm in the most exposed areas. Breeze from south, changing to fresh breeze from the southwest during the evening. -4 °C to 2 °C at 1400 m a.s.l. Cloudy.

Avalanche risk assessment

Høge temperaturar og regn fører til aukande skredfare. I dei områda som får mest nedbør kan våte skred løysne naturleg. Det finst framleis vedvarande svake lag i høgfjellet, men det skal mest truleg mykje til for å påverke desse. Ver merksam på fare for skavlbrot og glideskred. Viss det framleis kjem nedbør etter temperaturen har byrja å synke kan det kome noko nysnø i høgda, men denne vil mest truleg raskt få gode bindingar til gamalt snødekke.
